I wonder if the minority of Americans that fund the IRA might have pause for thought now. What I find disturbing is that America turns a blind eye to IRA terrorists, and that it provides so little help to UK and authorities in Northern Ireland. I guess it must have to do with people like Kennedy's and other politicians of Irish descent have so much influence in the US. Joe, I am not sure what this means. America doesn't turn a blind eye to what's happening in Ireland. Clinton spent almost as much time dealing with the IRA issues as the Israeli ones. In addition we have given aid to Northern Ireland and established programs for N. Ireland kids to come over and spend summers together, Catholics and Protestants, in the states on neutral territory. Its hoped that thru this program they will learn to deal with each other without violence. But, frankly, I think religion is the excuse to terrorize for both Cath. and Prot., and Arabs and Jews. Isn't it really an economic war? A fight between the haves and the have nots....as old as humanity itself? I suspect that if the economic divide were crossed that all sides would have much less to fight about. I think its for that reason we can do little to help. Sending aid does not create equanimity. I also believe that there is a significant difference between the two wars. In N. Ireland there are opposing factions; in the middle east there are opposing states. Therefore, the stakes are much higher in the middle east where more is at risk. That, along with the prompting from American Jews, is why I think it commands much more attention. ted
