Regarding E*Trade: Their fees for listed stocks (stocks traded on NYSE, Philadelphia, Pacific, etc.) causes me concern.

"... Includes stocks listed on the major exchanges, such as the New York, Philadelphia, or Pacific Stock Exchanges. For listed market orders over 5,000 shares, add 1 cent per share to the entire order. Add $35 per order for broker-assisted trades. Commissions and rates are subject to change without notice..."

So if I sell a stock whose symbol has 3 letters there could be a big difference in the commission, depending on how many shares are sold.

For example:

Up to and including 5,000 shares: $14.95

If I trade 5,001 shares the commission goes up to $64.95
