short selling, and put options are tools used in derrvitives, to ban the use of these would cause a bigger collapse as people unwound their position. If the Govt wants to help, they should offer to pay the 10-20 Billion to insured salvaging the insurence, and banking industries. They should seize acounts of Arab terrorists like bin laden to pay for whatever portion it covers.
