Jerome, your financial posts are often great but your political posts are naive. If Israel did as you suggest (declare victory, withdraw and call it a day), it wouldn't matter. The Palestinian goal is to push the Israelis into the sea. They want the whole thing. And even if they got the whole thing, they'd kill each other! Look at the Iran-Iraq war and Iraq-Kuwait. Even if you are not inclined to like the Jewish cause (which is, by the way, a mere sliver of homeland to as a haven against Hitlers, etc), Israel is an AMERICAN strategic interest in an otherwise unstable region. Didn't you see the Palestinians cheering (over the WTC attack) on TV? Wake up!
