and also give the cockpit the ability to inject a submissive "gas" instantly into the passenger area. Discussion ensued whereby it was noted that innocents would be subjected to the danger of "going under" along with the perpetrators but it was viewed as preferable to an all encompassing catastrophic end to the incident.

1 - Any gas that can rapidly and reliably take people down also runs the risks of killing people.

2 - If the hijackers can get weapons on board they might be able to get gas masks as well.
