Our little "Portland Int'l Jetport" is one, very modest sized building. It does not have a separate sterile wing - like most large airports. It is more like a sterile corridor. An arriving passenger would not have to exit and re-enter that corridor.

It also has, because of its size and the quality of the labor pool here, one of the tightest check points around. It is not like LaGuardia, O'Hare, LAX etc - where they are just trying to jam people through. If you only have one or two flights an hour - you can check out passengers fairly well.

A car has been reported to be in the parking lot with suspicious material.

So - I am not 100% on whether these 2 entered the states on a plane or by car. You probably recall the bin Laden operative that was caught smuggling explosives from Canada to Maine.

BTW - I just moved here, from CT where half my neighborhood - me included - worked in the city. Most of us whose final destination was down in the financial district took the same dawn train, caught a subway at Grand Central and then...

This is overwhelming.
