Agreed. You have to act. So far I am actually impressed with the administration's response. We will protect the nation as best we can, we will carry on investigations until we have enough evidence who it is, and then we will strike.
Inside your country, changes will be tougher I think. How many freedoms will you give up in the name of security? Your leaders immediately seized on the point early in the game:
What makes the country great is our freedom. We have to go about our business or they win.
You are going to have to give up some, of that there is no doubt and I think people will accept them.
In some countries, it is very difficult to perpetrate henous crimes. China for instance, where they are likely to shoot and ask questions later. However, personal freedom is little expected or valued there. You entire economic system has been built on the easy flow of money, products, and *people*. While some changes are inevitable, I don't think you would want to live in a fortress.
How about outside the country? I think it's a fine idea to be more active in an international organization that surveys and quickly punishes known terrorists. Somebody like bin Laden should have been removed years ago. It must be international in scope so that you, America, don't just create more terrorists if America is perceived as the killers of their fathers and heroes. |
