I provided shelter to a 14 year old girl who claimed to be a runaway although it was clearly against the law, and would like to think that I would have actively participated in the underground railroad back in the days of slavery. But, when push comes to shove, I really can not say what I would have done in similar circumstances. What I can say is that the majority of people did not cooperate with the Germans. Just as I have friends and family members who have violated the law and provided shelter to minors, often ones subjects of abuse, I have few doubts that many of these would have actively resisted the Germans. I just do not know which ones.
