Albert, very briefly, "eye for an eye" was meant to be a law that restrains vengeance, as more often than not, retribution hardly ever turns out to be a one-for-one deal.

"Turn the other cheek" is a radical view (at the time, but also radical today) that suggests foregoing your right to justice and pursuing forgiveness over anything else. It is a central tenet in Christ's death as the atoning sacrifice for all sin. The right to justice still exists, but it is also important to "Love one another."

Hmmm, perhaps I ought to personally dwell on that a little more ...
