In my experience, the easiest prey for con-men are decent people who are entirely honest. They cannot comprehend that others are ruthless and dishonest and will lie for personal gain. In the same way, I feel that if the world were inhabited by Jerome, Brian, and Sam, we would be a better world because of their sincere sense of compassion. However, there are many who play by a different set of rules and must be stopped.
In no way does that indicate that the impoverished people of the world should not be helped. AND, I do agree that terrorism is is facilitated by poverty and despair. However, there are people who play by a different set of rules, and we must stop them. Often these people are power hungry and become world leaders.
I met a woman who's entire family was gassed in her home village by the father of the current Syrian president--I'm forgetting his name--Saddam perhaps. The world did nothing. Her relatives were also innocent people. He didn't kill the villagers, thousands of them, because of poverty, inequity, and injustice. Milosovic doesn't fit the victim profile that Jerome, Brian, and Sam attribute to Bin Laden. There are criminals who kill and think they are correct. They must be stopped--while spareing the innocent.
