This is a new type of war where we are fighting people who are desperately poor
I think there are a lot of "characterizations" that are profitable to discuss. If Ben Laden is behind this you can hardly say poor. If these are oil producing states, again, their disparity of rich/poor may easily out-distance ours, or the west in general. Oil states are not too poor I think. The system of wealth distribution and opportunity might be questioned, though. You think their poverty is the result of our policies? No, this is not about class warfare, imo. blame our foreign policies for good reason. Which policies? The formation or recognition of the state of Israel? I need help here, but didn't Israel defeat Egypt in the 7 day war to maintain a state created after WWII? Was Palestine a nation? Have not presidents here been involved in many peace negotiations? Wasn't Sadat murdered because he stood for peace in the region with Israel? He was killed for many of the same reasons we were bombed...we symbolized something they didn't like. And you say we indiscriminately (were not bothered by) killed Iraqui civilians while targeting military and strategic installations to stop Khadafy. Yet you are upset that we are not using more force, it sounds like, to prevent further atrocities against the Kurds?
I try to envision a scenario in which I would justify taking this kind of action in another country. We did not target large apartment or office buildings in Iraq. Yet proponents of this action in NY are dancing in the streets and giving candy to little kids. Many interviewees in Middle East found reasons like yours to justify or "understand" this strike. There are no justifications for it that I find compelling.
