This new type of war (with dead opponents) requires a paradigm shift to go after the root causes. Happy people don't go to war and can't be convinced to off themselves.


I'm having trouble with that. I understand the principle, but I don't think it works for terrorism. I could buy it if we were talking about a country of happy or unhappy people as the wager of war. But we're talking about factions waging war. They don't need a lot of people. They only need maybe a couple of hundred unhappy ones and a rich sponsor. Even happy countries have a couple of hundred unhappy people. It certainly can't hurt to increase the overall level of happiness. It might disabuse some potential terrorists. But the magic pill? I don't see it.
