Fundamentalism and chauvinism as defined by the American Heritage dictionary:

fun·da·men·tal·ism ( f¾n”d…-mµn“tl-¹z”…m) n. 1. a. Often Fundamentalism An organized, militant Evangelical movement originating in the United States in 1920 in opposition to Liberalism and secularism. b. Adherence to the theology of this movement. 2. A movement or point of view characterized by rigid adherence to fundamental or basic principles. fun ”da·men“tal·ist adj. n. fun ”da·men”tal·ist“ic adj.

chau·vin·ism ( sh½“v…-n¹z”…m) n. 1. Militant devotion to and glorification of one's country; fanatical patriotism. 2. Prejudiced belief in the superiority of one's own gender, group, or kind: “ the chauvinism . . . of making extraterrestrial life in our own image ” Henry S.F. Cooper, Jr. [French chauvinisme after Nicolas Chauvin , a legendary French soldier famous for his devotion to Napoleon] chau “vin·ist n. chau ”vin·is“tic adj. chau ”vin·is“ti·cal·ly adv.

It is the "rigid adherence" and the "prejudiced belief in the superiority of one's own" that causes the problems. Christian fundamentalists believe that one must "be saved" in order to be "right with God", anyone who does not "accept the Lord" as defined in THEIR Bible, by THEIR fundamentalist theology is by definition not "right with God". That is chauvinism.
