I watched Peter Jennings tonight confirm my suspicions about asbestos contamination from the WTC collapse. IT was pretty sure that massive quantities of asbestos was used in building the WTC from my many visits to WTC construction site as a child. Asbestosis from WTC cleanup operation is going to make Gulf War syndrome like chump change. As soon as rescue efforts are wrapped up within week they have no other choice to treat scene as 10-15 square block hazardous waste site. People as we speak are being evacuated from nearby residential buildings under the guise of hazardous smoke conditions. I bring this up because I saw more than once Con Ed's large trucks that look like large vacuum cleaners on wheels on TV last night and today. Con Ed has got massive court ordered judgements to be a model citizen regarding pollution concerns from previous asbestos contaminations in Manhattan where they looked the other way to public safety to when pollution occurred. I am knowledgeable about this situation since my brother who worked for Con Edison for over 5 years as a environmental compliance officer as required by court settlement told me about asbestos cleanups on several occasions when he would have to go in all hours of the day and night to deal with their asbestos leaks when when some of the many miles of steam pipes running under the city streets burst. It is not going to be too long before lower Manhattan is wrapped in hundreds of feet of protective wrapping and hundreds of cleanup in space suits to keep asbestos from spreading. Our patriotic lawyers will soon be going to court to file suit against the state and city claiming that they are hiding the true dangers from the public. It will be not more than 1 year before tens of thousands of citizens and civil servants will be filing for medical lawsuits and disability pensions. The cost is going to run into tens of billions just for legal suit settlements. Bin Ladan will be overjoyed at this prospect of patriotic Americans claiming being victims of asbestos contamination. Last but not least, how many of you don't think there is not a quid pro quo with GE's $10 M charitable contribution to firefighters families. They were facing an immediate start of a EPA mandated $400 M fast track cleanup of PCBs in the Hudson River. The slimy Republican adminstration has probably signed off on deal to have EPA delay or mothball Army Corp of Engineers mandated cleanup plan with GE's limited bandaid approach to cleanup. john
