Agreed, the image of those celebrating was as shocking as the images of the explosions. I too can be quite skeptical of the press, but think is useful to show the contradictory image of some people celebrating while many of their leaders were publicly expressing condolences and letting the viewer form her own conclusions. I thought Arafat appeared to be quite shaken up and his condolences seemed genuine. Was it genuine? Is he out of touch with the sympathies and emotions of many Palestinians? Do those images of people celebrating express the emotions of a majority of Palestinians? These are questions I asked myself as I watched.

When I consider the relative poverty, I am afraid that those celebrations may not be so unrepresentative of the prevailing sentiment upon seeing such obvious power symbols of the west being attacked.
