Sounds like you are trying to justify something you are thinking of doing. You ignore the main point that past positions are not in question here only new ones. Shorting the US economy right now is unethical and unpatriotic. Period. You will see our financial leaders coming out and saying the same thing in coming days and Americans rallying around the economy. If it fails now the terrorists win and despite shorts claims to the contrary shorting after the tragedy hurts the markets when they're already wounded.
Already oil companies have moved to prohibit gouging (which tyhey usually love to get away with). Traders in Europe are voluntarily cancelling short positions. I just spoke to a friend who heard a government financial leader stating shorting after the disaster is "un-American". More to come.
This is war. Don't help the enemy.
