If only it were that simple.
>>We destroyed the government in Nazi Germany, and Japan, occupied them for a few years, and replaced them with governments that have caused zero (military) problems for us since then.<<
Who, exactly, are you going to conquer this time?
The problem with fanatical terrorists is - strangely - that they are exactly that: fanatical terrorists. Not countries, not rogue governments. Terrorists. It's why the term was coined, to describe small groups of like-minded loonies who go around bombing stuff they don't approve of. (As opposed to large groups, who do much the same, but are called countries.)
What are your options. Bombing Afghanistan flat won't help. Nuking Pakistan (berfore they have a chance to nuke you) won't help. And once you start, where do you stop? All of the middle east? True, you could bomb the world back into the Dark Ages, which was a period in European history that existed following the fall of the Roman Empire, characterized by isolationism, global recession and other stuff such as the Black Death. But that might stall economic growth for a century or two, and the sad truth is that the US would suffer most, in relative terms. When you get that successful, there's just so much further to fall.
We grieve with you. And we hope you have the courage, wisdom and nobility to stand firm. Find the criminals. Punish them, make an international example of them, eradicate them as a breed - there are a lot of countries out there who will help you do this. But please, first, know your enemy. |
