Teresa, speaking of aiding their worst off, I recently found a site of note and wrote a letter of inquiry. I enclose it here, with their response:

Subject: About your search engine

Hi;

Congratulations on launching a site that will aid the fight against hunger!

I have a few questions:

1) What search engines does your metasearch tool use?
2) Who pays for the food and how is it distributed?
3) Is food distribution contingent on the recipients attending religious services, as some US city Missions require?
4) Is your organization a 501-c-3 registered nonprofit or does it otherwise report on its use of donated funds and where the money goes?

As a webmaster, I'd be happy to recommend your searchbox on customer sites, once I'm certain of the impact and effectiveness of your organization's efforts.

Thank you for your consideration;

Hi Kevin,

Sorry for the truncated email previously sent to you. Here is the complete reply to your questions.

===============================================

Thank you for your email and support of SearchToFeed.

Just for our information, what is the URL of your Web sites? If you do link to us, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

To answer your questions:

1) What search engines does your metasearch tool use?
Currently, SearchToFeed returns top results from 14 search engines simultaneously for every search while generating a cup of food to help the hungry. You can see the direct link to each of them at the bottom of every result page. Those search engines are:
GoTo.com, GoClick, 7Search, Kanoodle, Sprinks, Google, AltaVista, AOL, BrainFox, HotBot, InfoSpace, Lycos, Yahoo, ePilot.

2) Who pays for the food and how is it distributed?
Our pay-for-performance search engine partners give us referral fee to drive targeted traffic to their listings.
To learn more how it works, please visit:
searchtofeed.org

The food is distributed by our beneficiary partner to where it is most needed. Currently we are partnering with Mercy Corps (http://www.mercycorps.org), one of the largest and most efficient hunger-relief charities. Since 1979, Mercy Corps has provided more than $550 million in assistance to 73 countries.

3) Is food distribution contingent on the recipients attending religious services, as some US city Missions require?
Absolutely not. Mercy Corps provides assistance exclusively based on need, without regard to religion or politics. We are partnering with Mercy Corps since we share their mission to bring hope and alleviate human suffering exclusively based on need, without discrimination.

4) Is your organization a 501-c-3 registered nonprofit or does it otherwise report on its use of donated funds and where the money goes?
SearchToFeed has filed for incorporation as a nonprofit organization registered in the state of Delaware. We are also in the process of applying for the 501(c)(3) status from the IRS. As you may know, it can take 6 months or more to get the status approved. So as a new company less than a month old, SearchToFeed is still in the interim status. With our interim status, we make a decision not to accept any cash donations until we obtain our 501(c)(3) status.

In contrast to most 501(c)(3) charities, with our unique technology, SearchToFeed can generate funds WITHOUT receiving money donations from public. SearchToFeed is free to use for any Web users, therefore should not cause any tax implication to the users. Funds to be used for hunger relief are generated from our business partners as their cost of doing business. It will never cost Web users anything to help the hungry through SearchToFeed.

With the unique power of the Internet, SearchToFeed was created to provide a fast, free and easy way for every Web users to join the fight against world hunger. At SearchToFeed, we make it possible for Web users to "capture" and "redirect" online advertising spending from businesses to make an impact in the world!

As a nonprofit organization, our goal is to be highly efficient and use our generated revenues to benefit our charitable causes as much as possible. The help of people like you will make a difference. By promoting and spreading the word for SearchToFeed, you will be helping us reduce our expenses that would otherwise be spent on marketing and fundraising costs.

Please feel free to learn more about SearchToFeed at About Us and other sections:
searchtofeed.org

We are highly recommended by the Search Engine Expert at About.com:
websearch.about.com

We are putting together an "FAQs" section to give our users quick answers to many of common questions like the above. It will be available online soon so please check back to learn more about us.

I hope you find SearchToFeed worthy of your support. We need many Webmasters like you to share our mission to end this human tragedy. Imagine how many cups of food will be donated if every Web users know and care to search the Net through SearchToFeed. They will get same results from their favorite search engine anyway (even with more choices of results from other search engines), why not help a hungry child at the same time?

I hope this help. Here is the link to our Search Boxes:
searchtofeed.org

Again, thank you for your support and let me know if you have any more questions.

Together, we can put a big dent in world hunger!

Warmest Regards,

Amanda Smith
