CB, this is virtually impossible. Much harder than the war on drugs, IMO. The key potential source of nuclear weapons are the former Soviet Union's "loose nukes." It has been repeatedly reported that many of them are missing. Some were stationed in the new Asian countries curved out of the Soviet Union, with Islamic populations very sympathetic to the Palestinian cause. Others have perhaps fallen in the hands of the Russian Mafias, whose backbones consist of agents of the former KGB.

There is no question in my mind that the only answer is a solution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, acceptable to both sides. This will involve large American contributions to the security of Israel as well as economic development support (call them bribes) to all involved. These costs are trivial to what awaits us if we continue on the present course of "hands off the Middle East."
