Very interesting article and sounds quite logical.

If we are going to defeat Usama bin Ladin, we need to openly side with Ahmad Shah Mas'ud, who still has a decent chance of fracturing the tribal coalition behind Taliban power. That, more effectively than any clandestine counterterrorist program in the Middle East, might eventually force al-Qa'ida's leader to flee Afghanistan, where U.S. and allied intelligence and military forces cannot reach him.



This I believe is the key. The real leaders of Afghanistan were thrown out because of our support of Bin Laden against Russia. Now we need to go back and support the people of Afghanistan so they can get rid of Bin Laden bring civilization back to Afghanistan and peace to its extremely poor and sufferng population.

The Clinton Administration's senior director for counterterrorism on the National Security Council, Richard Clarke, who has continued as the counterterrorist czar in the Bush Administration, is sure that bin Ladin and his men stay awake at night "around the campfire" in Afghanistan, "worried stiff about who we're going to get next."


The only way to make sure they stay awake around a campfire si to take away their safe harbor in Afghanistan.
