Rob -- you really brought back some memories there. That is not a recent editorial. I heard that on WABC-AM, way back when it was a rock and roll station, around the time I was in sixth grade or so (early 70's). Around the same time songs like "the Streak" and "Hooked on a Feeling" were big on the charts, the commentary you mentioned was right up there with it.

I thought I recognized the name when I heard it, and was absolutely sure when I read the part about "an old caboose". The commentator's words were set to a background medley of "God Bless America" and other songs of patriotism and was released on a 45rpm record, which I and many others added to our collections of early Beatles and Stones songs. I'm sure I still have that original 45, tucked away in a storage room in New Jersey somewhere with the rest of my pre-CD record collection...

How unfortunate that it is difficult to discern that the commentary was written some 30 years ago, and how sad that many of the statements expressed there still apply today...
