I agree that the exchange floor is a relic of a bygone era, particularly since the NASDAQ has been functioning for thirty years. However the pause may allow time for healing the psychological scars in the financial community, since the WTC housed too many people close to the investment community. The loss of office space in Manhattan will automatically force a migration out of Manhattan as you note. But it will not happen overnight. A longer recession appears unavoidable. The Feds and Central banks are trying to pump up the monetary system, hopefully lessening the pain.
