Re: Joint action This is our fondest hope. That from this tragedy the major powers of the world come to realize that ultimately we are one global civilization, richly diverse but inextricably linked, and that we must act in concert and with determination to counter those who would destroy that civilization and their sponsors. I am especially encouraged by the signs coming from Russia and China. Together there is nothing we cannot accomplish for ourselves and our children. Apart we can only continue on the failed treadmill of retaliation and recrimination. We have the means to end forever the root causes of untold human suffering in this century: war, hunger, poverty, ignorance, hopelessness, and to create a world worthy of our potential as a species. Let us pray that leaders from around the globe and their people--all of us--have the wisdom to seize this opportunity to create ourselves anew in the grandest version of the greatest vision we have of who we are and who we chose to be.
