JT> We've got open panic in Europe...

...There is absolutely no trust in NATO...

...the best thing you guys could do right now is mobilise and take care of your problem ~ that region south of Austria-Hungary --> Northern Greece, and so relieve us of having to handle your southern flank ~ so we can go take over the Middle East.

> I see, Steve, you're thinking behind the borders of us stone age beeings, and it feels very well to me, to hear a voice of noon and logic...

...actually, Jury ~ I'm very angry -- and I'm glad that I am not in a position to vent my anger, to be honest about it.

My greatest fear is that we will fall into some kind of "open-ended" War Against Terrorism ~ some kind of perpetual, Orwellian nightmare in which we are always operating under "war-rules", our civil liberties limited: a de facto victory for terrorism. What would victory look like? We already have this kind of nightmare with our absurd "War On Drugs".

==> There is no freedom without vulnerability.

I want to hurt the people who did this to us, Jury. otoh, I also want to open up our airports, buildings, etc. ~ and say to the World: "our response to terrorism is to increase freedom and civil liberties" :-/

MadameGonzo has made reservations for us to have Sunday brunch at the Officer's Club at Fort Mason (in TheCity) this Sunday... we dine there from time-to-time ~ it's always seemed a relic of my youth (my connection with the Armed services, circa ~1968) but now it seems almost essential that I/we renew this old bond.
