If you have ever listened to corporate execs addressing their employees when business is turning down, you probably know that faking sunny optimism is a required job skill.

To me, O'Neill sounds exactly like a CEO still. He's just saying what he might (for example) say to Alcoa employees if he knew the earnings were very likely about to implode.
