JQP,
A challenging response.
I don't pretend to have all the answers, and I certainly don't enjoy speculating how to spill more blood. The discussion just doesn't seem to take account of the fact that our government's actions are part of the problem. To continue this approach will leave a woeful legacy to our children. There is no solution based on "good vs. evil." That is the fanatic's worldview and how they justify their murderous actions. Now Bush is talking about a war of good vs evil. The Vietnam war was based on the same kinds of fantasies being indulged today.
Talk of exterminating people just doesn't take into account that our nation is not an invulnerable island. Our actions of war in the Middle East bring reprisals. They are not going to engage on a battlefield because our military is too powerful. Let's face the fact that our military cannot protect us and start looking for some other long term solutions to this problem.
Einstein said that the problems of today cannot be solved by the same level of thinking that created them. I'm searching for answers.
Please don't send my children and grandchildren to die so you can drive your friggin SUV. Please don't bomb cities and countries for revenge, which will result in waves of new martyrs coming to our shores to kill my children and grandchildren.
I am sickened by this bloody crime. An act of war? (The insurance companies are off the hook.) Afghanistan is already in the stone age, 22 years of war and 4 years of famine. Invade them? They'll run and hide like rabbits. There's nothing over there worth more than a cruise missile. There are no oil refineries to bomb, no power stations, no skyscrapers, trading centers, factories. So you want to what, exterminate all people living in Afghanistan? Just the males?
I would like to see Osama arrested and his network eliminated if they orchestrated this massacre. I would like to see the people who funded and trained Osama arrested and prosecuted for creating a threat to our national security, starting with the CIA. I would like to see the people in the DOT, FBI, and airline companies who refused to implement enhanced security in our aviation system after Lockerbie because it costs too much arrested and tried for endangering national security.
I have to run now to pick up dinner. My wife is so sickened with grief for the victims and the heroes and heroines in this tragedy, especially the firemen, policemen, and the brave men on flight 93, that she if physically ill. It is pretty difficult for people here to get much work done.
