Abe Lincoln once said something much like "In time of war some people are killed, and some make a killing". He was referring to members of his cabinet who were profiteering from the battles. Rumsfeld's objectives since leading one wing of finance of Bush's candidancy has been to get a good return on that investment for defense industries. Since NASA would only pay retail for rocketry, he has been pushing his rediculous missle defense "Star Wars" program to prop up the rocket industry at rates two to ten times retail. He is still at it no matter how inappropriate it is for today's threats. In today's war atmosphere where congress is evacuated by tips of the administrative branch for apparent false alarms before key financial votes, where jingoism is promoted at each opportunity, and where photo opportunities in front of scenes of destruction are parceled out to key supporters, it is more important than ever to keep a level head about the events. The war is on, the inertia of world opinion will take over. We all hope that the coming action will make an improvement in the world. I hope the President will finally try to become a leader of all of the people in this time of sorrow and effort. TP
