All AMD has to do is equate "Intel Inside" with "expensive".
In fact the AMD compatible P5 and P6 will be of the same quality as an Intel part, since chips are the same if they meet their specs. Intel is vunerable in that they are a monopoly which has so far remained one by moving the technology fast enough so that potential competitors could not keep up. As a monopoly they could charge high prices, as they do now. However, I think that the P5 is about it for a while; most users will not see the advantage in upgrading to P6, P7, etc like they did with going from 386 to 486 to P5. P5's will continue to get faster, however. If that true, then Intel can no longer evolve the x86 architecture to maintain its monopoly. Enter companies like AMD at the right time to take advantage of this new situation.
