They have to detail every detail of the materials that are to be used from the fabric covering to the screws that hold on the trim. Every tiny thing has a specification several pages thick. Major subsystems have specifications and manuals up to several hundreds of pages thick and maintenance manuals, software verifications manuals, incoming inspection test procedures, manufacturing verification test procedures, specifications on how to assemble that category of assembly or class of electronic gear, specifications and procedures on how to write the specifications and procedures. You get the idea. I didn't invent the system. For all the fear of flying there is in the world, 100 times more people get killed in car accidents than fall out of the sky. So maybe the system works . . . despite itself.
