I have not been able to get thru the security deivse with my keys and in some cases my belt on. How does one get away with exacto knives? Ratan, There seems to be a level of arbitrariness that has always existed in the security process at most airports. For example, I always travel with a PDA. If I carry the PDA on my person, i.e., in my pocket or a pouch on my belt, I am almost invariably asked to turn it on, for whatever reason. But when I place the same PDA in my hand baggage that goes through the x-ray machine, I am never asked to produce it. Then there is the racial profiling factor. Whenever there is any element of discretion in the security process, and there almost always is, some degree of racial and other profiling generally exists. In other words, a higher standard of scrutiny is applied to non-Caucasians, even though such a double standard is illegal. I was strip searched at Athens airport in the sixties once because I had long hair. I wasn't too surprised. Sam
