Since I am planning a trip at the end of the month to San Jose... I have wondered what the market for airline tickets will be like: higher (additional security costs), lower (reduced demand), or no market (continued disruptions). It seemed like there were some slightly lower fares when I checked this evening with very short purchase requirements (7 days instead of two weeks) and there were seats available for all flights in all fare categories (Southwest Air's site works pretty smoothly).

And then I also question whether I want to fly at all... or invest the money when the economy/nation may be facing some severe challenges. Just late night unwinding - I will make the trip to celebrate a 90th birthday and unite with long unseen relatives and their new families. The kind of investment that I hope/feel many are contemplating this week: increased sense of community and support and respect for others even while the terrorists who have chosen to violate these beliefs are being sought.

On CNN I caught a segment on the initial backlash against Arab-Americans followed the next day by clear support that they are Americans first and not guilty by association.
