Most important - I want to put this on the top of the list - you cannot use the past as justification for what you do in the future. Neither "us," nor "you." I know people do it, but they always pick the part of history that makes them look good, which means they are lying. That's harsh words, but it's true.

I know I can't stop people from doing it. It's one of those things people do, tell themselves stories to justify their actions.

Maybe this is why Eastern religion advises living in the moment. So many people focus on the past, not as historians, but as grudge collectors. Injustice collectors.

Maybe it makes me mad because I am a mother, and it drives me nuts when my kids do it, tit for tat. One bad act doesn't justify another bad act.

Just do the right thing.
