If Tom Clancy is on TV preaching tolerance, he has my respect and admiration. Good for him, it's a courageous stance in the current environment. I don't watch a lot of TV.

What I was referring to is the macho fantasies about going in and taking out all the bad guys in some glorious military operation, and if a few (thousand? 10ks? 100ks? All the muslims? ) innocents go down on the way, well, they weren't really innocent, they knew something bad was going on. An attitude I associate, perhaps unfairly, with the black and white, good vs. evil, one dimensional plot lines of Clancy's ever popular output. Afghanistan has had about as miserable a past 20 years as I can imagine, and they had a lot of outside help getting to their current state. It's fine to go after the bad guys, but it'd be nice if somebody was willing to give some thought to the millions of people living utterly miserable lives there, in what everybody in the west wishes were just a forgotten cold war relic that would go away.
