You are, of course, not the only one worried. That's why it's pretty unlikely that anything similar will happen anytime soon.

If any terrorists managed to actually get through the heightened security and attempt a highjacking, I don't think they'd get very far with plastic knives and boxcutters. Hostage taking works a lot better if the victims don't all know that they're all going to die, regardless, if the attempt succeeds.

I guess you could construct a situation where the majority of passengers are terrorists, though that would be much harder to do. The pilots are not going to give up control of the plane. If nothing else works, they'll put it into a dive first.

The problem isn't what happened last time, it's something different we need to be thinking about.
