<<outside of standard deviation event (also called a rogue wave)>> Actually, it's outside 2 standard deviations which has been used by Bollinger (bollinger bands for stocks) and control theory people to define a process in control. Any process is in control when contained inside an upper and lower band of two standard deviations average of a statistically meaningful data set (~95% probability). Like stocks, where breakout or crash move values outside the bands, any process outside its bands is a process out of control. Artificial intelligence scientists have their own term for this occurrence, novelty burst.

A failure to remain in control always hurts the stability of any process. I would suggest posting a link to your post on the GPM thread before gold_tutor dissolves that thread with her hateful digestive juices. <VBG>
