Hey West,
Sorry for the post. I understand how it could be interpreted as alarmist, and I regretted it after posting.
I have been concerned for years that we know enemies of our country and our people have been operating within our borders, radical Islamic fundamentalists, some of whom have called openly for our death and destruction. We have seen this at least as far back as the first WTC bombing.
We have other Americans who are apologists for these people. They have argued that even those aliens who have called for our death have "rights" and under our current system have made it impossible to deport these people. We are reaping the fruits of that moral weakness now, and thousands of our countrymen and women have paid with their lives.
Let's face it, this attack could have been worse.. far, far worse. Until we take the necessary steps to protect ourselves, we are at risk for attack with weapons of mass destruction. In fact, in recent years, our government has told us outright that it is only a matter of time until we suffer such an attack. You will recall the Rudman commission and the warnings last year of Secretary of Defense Cohen.
The problem I have is that we have operated on the assumption that we cannot prevent such an attack. That is absurd. Are we to wait until our neighbors and loved ones are lying dead on their green suburban lawns before we summon the moral and political will to do what is necessary to protect ourselves?
My answer to this is ABSOLUTELY NOT. We need to control our borders and exercise tighter control over whom is allowed to enter our country and reside here, and who is not. What we have just seen demonstrated is that we have enemy suicide squads operating within our borders, who are capable of killing thousands. In just a matter of days, our govt has identified at least 50 conspirators involved in this one plot alone.
Now, my question to you is: Do you have a problem with that?
I do! We need to get down to business and root these people out. And further, we have to make sure that something like this, or worse never happens again.
I am seeing a lot of apologists, excusers, and mitigators who do not comprehend the nature of the enemy we face, and apparently also do not apprehend the extent of our exposure and vulnerability, or the steps we must take to protect ourselves.
These are basically the points I have been trying to make.
All the best to you as well.
