I am in favor of hitting back hard at the attackers. At the same time I recognize that much of the hatred that Muslims have for US reflects decades of US bullying and interference in the region. I would hope that after revenge has been taken we would follow a less provocative and bullying foreign policy, though frankly I rate the odds of such a shift at about one in a hundred.

I have long been aware of this hatred and as a result have not flown in many years. Nor would I dream of going into a place like the World Trade Center. I view these precautions as similar to defensive driving. That is what the world has come to.

Until these conflicts are resolved Americans are going to days to live with the same dangers facing many other nations in the world. The days of costless easy wars like the Gulf turkey shoot are over.
