Ten,
re: Yeah, I know, it's a shame, but like I said before, it's a war.
It's beginning to sound like WWIII. We are now willing to attack innocent countries because they are "with us or against us", no middle ground. Actually, a lot more severe than any previous war.
I'm more than a little worried that, in our grief and rage, we may be abandoning the fundamental principles that we work so hard to defend. I've never felt very comfortable with arm chair patriots waving American flags, bent on vengance.
Now we seem to be headed into the middle of a religious war, guns blazing, with little regard to the consequences, long or short term. We seem to have the support of the middle east regimes, that doesn't mean we have the support of their people (in some cases at least, we don't). The official support could turn on a dime, once the bombs start dropping and the US troops hit the Muslim ground.
It's very easy to be confident, and have bravado entering a war. If we end up in a ground war in the middle east, thousands of US soldiers will be killed. And with the capabilities in the region, unthinkable consequences could result. All to settle a score with a single terrorist group.
Lots of folks seem to smell blood, and that's a powerful emotional force after a huge loss. Hopefully there are some level heads in Washington that are willing to look at the big picture, and make some sensible decisions that don't drag the country into a conflict that would be a much larger tragedy.
At the times when you want to strike out, it's usually the time you really need to step back and think. But I guess nobody wants to hear that right now.
