<< you are confusing patriotism and determination with economic confidence. >>

No I'm not. Clearly they are separate issues. Obviously economic confidence and consumer confidence will fall temporarily. The economy will be modestly harmed in the very short run. Medium and longer term this is NOT a negative impact to the economy. You will see things return to normal very quickly in terms of activities that effect the economy. Planes will fly again, countries will trade, consumers will buy. As NY is rebuilt, greater technology is put into place for security, bombs and planes are built for a war on terrorism, etc. etc. the economy will see a POSITIVE effect.

<< You are also grossly underestimating our enemies and wrongly assuming that conventional military action and superior weapons will vanquish them. >>

No I'm not. I never said we would win quickly or even win. It will obviously be a long, probably never ending battle. Terrorism will never go away in my opinion. What's changed is that we (and much of the rest of the world) will begin a war against terrorism. The effort to subdue and/or eliminate as many of the terrorist groups as possible is about to be greatly increased.

The $40 billion pledged to fight terrorism isn't money that's just going to evaporate. It will go into the economy in one form or another. The $20 billion pledged to NY will also go into the economy. These are only the beginning of the funds that will be dedicated to these goals. Obviously this will help the economy.

<< We should be seriously addressing the Moslem world's grievances with us >>

I agree

<< We should also be seriously curtailing some of our internal freedoms >>

This won't be allowed to happen in a meaningful way. Our nation is too strong and determined.

<< such as ASAP establishing a national fake-proof ID card and keeping much better track of all foreigners entering the country >>

Positive effects on the economy and technology, in my opinion.
