Boris, You seem to have a good understanding of the middle east. One thing I would add, from reading, and no first hand experience. The Muslim middle class in many countries is very anti-American, and not supportive of their own regimes. They resent that their governments work with the US, they resent the sanctions against Iraq. Any public support we get in the region is razor thin, because it won't be supported by many of the people in the region. It could evaporate as soon as the first American lands on Muslim soil. The nationalistic and religious sentiment shouldn't be underestimated. John
