First, let me extend my heartfelt grief for what happened in NY over the last few days. As Canadians we have had our differences with the U.S., but today, more than 75 thousand people showed up in our Capital to show support and respect for our southern neighbors. This is only a token of the true feelings of most Canadians. We will stand with the U.S. as allies and friends
Falwell, on the other hand, is at least partially right, even if he's only gotten half the picture. If you concede God's existence, then the kinds of things he mentioned cannot be pleasing to Him and some sort of judgement would logically be expected. What Jerry failed to point out is that the precedent established in the bible show that God is more likely to be upset by those who claim to know Him, and then turn around and live debauched and unprincipled lives, than he is to be upset by the ACLU. Jesus reserved some of his harshest criticism for hypocritical religionists and both our countries are full of them.
That does not mean that they (ACLU types) bear no responsibility, but only that he should also look in the mirror, as should we all. It's always easier to spot the speck in the other guys eye than it is to notice the log in our own.
At any rate all this talk about Mecca is about a thousand miles off. The real center of this dispute is Jerusalem, and the US support of Israel. The Palestinians were dancing in the streets and giving gifts to one another on the news that the attack on NY was successful. The AP has footage, but were threatened with death if they showed it, and they capitulated. I will not be surprised if there is found to be a connection to Hamas and even the PLO in all of this. I am surprised that no body seems to be aware of what is at root of this problem. Cos hinted at it, but I think he was perceived (falsely) as somehow excusing the actions of the terrorists.
