I have read the research report and their evidence seems to be coming from very reputable sources. The confernce and the research paper were named pentium II so the discussion was about mainly Intel.

But if you are interested amd discontinued k5 even if it was still in demand in favor of k6. Cyrx is likely to stop production of 6x86 in favor of 6x86MX. Both moves are better for the companies since the products generate higher margins and carry pretty much the same cost.

The evidence of lack of demand for pII is coming from OEMs like Gateway. I would say that is pretty reliable.

There is no real evidence that there is a slow down in Europe. While there is not much of demand for pentiums the demand for amd chips is pretty high there.
