Pete, Re: HTGCFBR and "the reactor could be shut down merely by flooding the core with water"

This was years ago... but I thought the gas cooled reactors would simply warm up to a maximum temperature well within the tolerances of the containment system (2000 degrees?). Adding water (under pressure I assume) sounds hazardous but as I said, I am years out of the loop on this one.

I do believe in the technology for production but have reservations about the resolve to provide for long-term solutions to the waste products (even while the waste products from other energy resources are often not fully addressed in the first place - I can recall an old, abandoned strip coal mine from childhood and it looked like "hell").
