E., I think that might have worked 1,000 years ago. I don't think occupation works today. It's too easy for the locals to realliate with unimaginable force(the PLO have hardly any armament and look what they do). Could you really see Americans occupying the mid east? The Russians couldn't even take Afghanistan. We didn't have the resolve to take Iraq. I don't see that happening.
