Glenn: ?? The conflicts that fester in the world are not transient -- they will exist until we develop an effective means to deal with them. So far, nothing has worked very well. How long ago was it that each of the terrorists we revile was an ally we praised? Saddam? The Afganny "freedom fighters"? We need to chart a new course. In the meantime, risks have escalated.

You can post notes saying you do not understand the idea of a "slowdown" -- but you are just putting your head in the sand. Ignoring the world does not make it go away. We are now interdependent with the world -- and the dark side of that interdependence just made the most ugly and personal statement I can imagine. There is no justification -- but it is real nonetheless. And, unfortunately, it does not appear to be over.
