It may depend upon what weapons we use. They already have prototypes of a new weapon which can see through I believe a foot of concrete. They have new heat sensors which can see the outline of a person behind walls. If these work well in the mountainous regions, it could easily give our forces the upper hand by taking away their cover. We already have night glasses for night fighting, which could be used to our advantage. And if the Russians and Chinese cooperate, it will take away the usual sources for the opposition weapons. And dare I say it, if absolutely necessary, small theater neutron shells could be used, which can penetrate rocks and tanks, which will kill anyone within a limited area, even if they are under cover. The neutrons have a very short half life, so the area will be safe to enter, I believe within an hour; and don't leave nuclear residue over the battlefield. Whether we have the guts to use them is doubtful, but necessity is the mother of invention. Just the ability to use them could shorten the war immensely.
While we are at it, I believe most terrorists are repulsed by Bin Ladens actions, as he killed thousands of innocent civilians, and thus assured the world that a new antiterrorist mode would pervade the world. Sort of like someone in the mafia doing something, which would make the people demand retribution against them. How long has that guy lived lately? Hamas and the PLO could easily suffer as the world puts pressure on their home countries to abolish terrorism. Did you know that Carlos the Jackal, the master terrorist of the 80's was turned in by his own people because he had become to hot too handle. When Carlos in the 80's invaded the OPEC meeting, he signed his death warrant. I would expect the same for Osama, as Hamas or some other organization penetrates Bin Ladens group, and gives their location away; in order to take the pressure off of themselves. And while Bin Laden has paid the Taliban for protection, it will look like chicken feed when you have 400,000 troops amassing on the border. |
