Jay, sir, individual stocks to be discussed briefly only and in relation to present big picture: why would you go long Furukawa (5801 in Japan) on Monday? I quote some of the Nikkei website's info:
"Furukawa Electric Co. (5801), which has decided to acquire the
fiber optic division of Lucent Technologies Inc. of the U.S. for some
340 billion yen, is worried about the increasingly chaotic distribution
network in the U.S. The company thinks it will have to revise down
fiscal 2001 sales estimate for optical transmission system parts in
North America from 19 billion yen."
And since they do not have those big chunks of JDS Uniphase anymore (I think), the revised EPS growth estimate for March 2002 is MINUS 82%. And for March 2003 EPS growth estimates are a mere 9%. It's true though, they are moving into China now....
In the greater context: do you think Furukawa (and similar co's?) is attractive *because* everything looks so lousy from hereandnow?
