This could get very interesting. In the heirarchy of the equity investment community the big houses are at the top and of course we individual investors are at the bottom. The companies themselves which have become like banks such as GE may be able to play this game, or if they play in just one sector like Franco. However, unlike brokers and investors who keep their finger on the pulse of the whole market, most companies are in their own seperate business, have been placed near the top of the heirarchy, but set aside. In order to keep the business of these companies, the most lucrative part of the brokerage business, Public Offerings, corporate bonds, corporate pensions funds, managing the executives portfolios, are the brokers willing to step aside and let the companies become the mm's and for how long?

As for the companies themselves playing this game. How lovely, no one can go short so the exec's run the price up and just keep selling into it. Shareholder's=Bagholder's if you're not an insider. Just another thing that will end badly.
