Mucho:

We were suffering a crises of demand. At least in the NY City economy there will be increased demand. Tech industry is bound to benefit.

1. This crises has shown that cell phones are an extension of our bodies. And that cell phones have given more communication power to individuals than the organized control and command systems of the Airlines. Wireless companies will face greater pressure to comply with E-911 regulation.

2. That companies face the risk of huge losses of important paper documentation. So you will see greater digitization of paper-based way of doing business. (No, I am not predicting paper will go away). You will also see redundant storage, replication of databases, and other disaster recovery methodologies to flourish.

3. Fear will drive Corporations and military to use more secure voice and computer systems. That is not an easy task for everyone to implement and will generate lot of consulting work.

4. Airline travel will drop for a few months but should bounce back. Having lived in cities where terrorist threat was a given, I have seen that people return to normal lives in a few months. Maybe videoconferencing will benefit due to more experimentation during the last week. Many companies have not seriously tried the technology before.

5. Internet technology worked better than expected. After all it was designed to withstand a nuclear disaster. There is still a lot of growth left in internet.
