I'm sure the people of Kabul would welcome us with open arms, while the remnants of Taliban ran to the hills. From there they would ambush and snipe at us, and turn many of the rest of the Afghans against us infidels... Afghanistan is one heck of place to occupy. If the Russian experience doesn't convince you, check out the British experience in the 19th century.
